This half-term has gone by in a flash and I am as exhausted as ever!

We have been very busy in school. A huge congratulations to year 6 for completing their SATS tests last week. After half-term, year 1 and some of year  2 will have their phonics screening check , year 2 will have their SATS and year 4 have their multiplication check. So there is still plenty to complete before the academic year is over.

Thanks to Lacey for this wonderful picture of me, Mrs Moir and Mrs Louis White. We are very glamorous! Thank you!

REMINDERS

Just a polite reminder that the gates have to close promptly just after 8.45am in the mornings.  We need to close the gates and register the children so that learning outside can start promptly. We cannot hang around! If you are asked to go through the office, that is because you are late – the whole school cannot stop because of a few families.

Our uniform policy is on our school website. It is not as strict as the vast majority of schools. However, there are some things I cannot compromise on. Pupils should not be wearing makeup, nail varnish and fake nails to school, they must not wear branded clothing, they need to wear school colours- red, white and black and skirts/ shorts must not be too short.

On dress down days, clothing should be age and activity approrpriate. Today, many children have come to school wearing very revealing clothing – more suited to teenagers than children. Please help your children to select appropriate clothing for school.

Thank you

Congratulations

to BLUE TEAM!!!! A well deserved victory today in the Tug of War!

Congratulations and well done to the following children! 100% attendance is not easy! Keep it up!

Final plans for the Big Sleepover are being made. We have never had such a huge uptake- we are excited that 140 pupils will be taking part this year! There is still time to book if you would like to- it is on Parentpay- available for all ages.

The children in Foundation have started independently working through the mental mathletes levels. Huge congratulations to Eric, Jada-Rico, Nazwaan, Mark, Alfie, Awil, Daniel and Illy who have already reached level 5!

This half term, the children in Master Readers have been loving reading 'Dirty Bertie'. The book has inspired them to find others by the same author too!

Whitby have enjoyed their forest school session this week, using skills that they have learnt during the spring and summer term to explore and care for our outdoor classroom.

They have also been enjoying the new swing that was kindly donated by Mrs Moir which has been installed in the forest school area.

Athletics Superstars!

Take a look at our children tackling our indoor athletics circuit! They have been building their muscular strength, agility, and cognitive focus across five stations: long strides, the skipper station, chest throws, relay racing, and the speed bounce. Everyone has shown incredible teamwork. These stations are specifically designed to boost the children's core stability, speed, and overall fitness—and as you can see from their faces, they are absolutely loving it!

Well done Missenden!

In Melrose the children have been using weaving techniques used in the Stone Age to create a paper basket.

It was tricky!

Well done to Elliot- he made a Stone age tool as part of his homework!

It is an axe!

Lucky years 5 and 6 went to the seaside this week as part of their project 'Where land meets the sea'. They had a wonderful time, for some children this was the first time they had ever been to the seaside! The sun did come out! If only for a little time. A huge thank you to everyone that went along and made it a memorable day!

SHOUT OUT

'I have to say Mrs Brown is a credit to the school she is so professional and was such a good leader with everyone that was on the trip. I have come across many teachers being a foster carer from lots of schools across Milton Keynes and I would say is up there with one of the best. Please can you shout out that I think she did a great job making sure all the teachers, helpers and kids had a great day while also learning and experiencing new things'.

Simon Harrison

'Well done to all the staff and children who attended the trip to Southend- we all had a great time'

Mel Pizey

This week, the Year 6's have been working alongside Thorne Solutions and Engage2Action to develop a variety of skills that will help them in their everyday and working lives as they get older - such as problem solving, communication and team work.

They have worked in small groups to design something that would benefit and improve their local area including: homeless shelters, new car parks and leisure centres! They first designed their idea, then came up with a lego model design and pitch and had to visit the 'Bank of Bricks' to see if their ideas were good enough to get a brick loan.

Next, 3 of the groups were selected as finalists, to present their idea to real local businesses.  There were some special prizes for the winners, all provided by Thorne Solutions!

Congratulations to our winning team!

Mapalo, Bonnie- Lyn and Charlie!

Team work makes the dream work!

The team kindly donated a £100 gift card to the school after their work this week! I asked them to choose two children who stood out to them to help me spend the voucher on books! They chose Aiden and Bonnie- Lyn! Well done children. After half-term we will go to WHSmith on a spending spree. Well done and thank you for representing Abbeys so well!

Ms Burton's art club have been very busy. Here are some drawings inspired  by Kandinsky.

SHOUT OUT to Charlie  who made it into the Angling Times last week and the best bit was he was in the edition that was released on his birthday!

Well done Charlie!

At the end of the season,David has once again been chosen as the team’s best player of the year. The coaches are very proud of him and consider him an important player for the team. He always helps the team, is there for his teammates, and scores goals. The coaches said they are lucky to have him on the team. Wow! You couldn't have better feedback than that!

Shout-out to Caleb for being a super big brother, he's so kind and helpful and helpful even reads with him!

Great work Caleb!

Big shout out to Harmony who has been given a speaking role in Shrek the musical.

She practised so hard for the auditions and is now practising even harder for the show.
Well done Harmony!

I wanted to shout out to Owen and Kaisan for their football this year. They have both stepped up and given everything each week and have worked so hard no matter what the results. As you can see from the photo below, they both enjoyed the last game of the season. Well done lads!

Well done to Jack and John!

John won the 200m medal in swimming (Stage 5) last week.

Jack won the 20 meters swimming medal last week (Stage 4). Fastest in his class!

You have both made Mum and Dad extremely proud! Well done.

A HUGE SHOUT-OUT to Crystal Chu.... LEVEL 100 in Mental Mathletes – the first ever Year 5 pupil to achieve level 100!

Over half-term I will be writing 100 more levels to continue to challenge her!

Well done Crystal! I always knew you would do it!

Mrs Milne mugged Mr Gilbert for all the friendly support he shows in all of his different roles across the school and being a great addition to the year 1/2 team.

Mr Gilbert has a smile on his face all the time and he has a great sense of humour!

Thank you Mr Gilbert

Have a wonderful half-term everyone!

We will see you on Monday 1st June - please come back refreshed and raring to go for a busy final term!

Lastly, a huge congratulations to Mrs Sadia and Mrs Ahmed who are both expecting babies later in the year! Best wishes to you and your families.

I am just going to leave this here!
