Last year I really enjoyed reading all the messages – thank you!

Commitment to Equality, Respect and Inclusion- Please read

Our school is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our community. We will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation of any kind based on any protected characteristic.

Protected characteristics include age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

We expect all pupils, parents, carers, staff and visitors to treat one another with dignity, kindness and respect. Any behaviour or language that discriminates against, excludes or demeans others because of a protected characteristic will be taken seriously and addressed in accordance with our school policies. Lately, more and more children are using phrases that are not appropriate for school and this concerns me. It is vital that you have these conversations with your children.

By working together, we can ensure that our school remains a place where everyone feels valued, respected and able to thrive.

We ask all families to support these values both within and beyond the school community. Differences of background, identity and belief are respected at our school, and discrimination of any kind has no place here.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the BIG SLEEPOVER. It was epic this year, but it is so tiring! Well done to all the staff and to the pupils- for some it was their very first sleepover! Fun memories were made!

Well done and thank you to everyone- same time next year?

A couple of children deserve a huge SHOUT-OUT from all the staff! Multiple members of the team mentioned Rocco and Sean H to me. Rocco for his wonderful manners and his appreciation and Sean for supporting the younger children- even when he wasn't asked to. Well done boys, we are proud of you.

Here is my favourite photo!

John charging towards me with a water gun! I forgive you John – especially after you delivered chocolates on Monday morning!

'Thank you to everyone involved with the sleepover, the photos looked great and I know that my son had an amazing time.

Well done all!'

Noah's Mum

In class, the pupils have all started their final topic of the academic year.  Foundation are learning all about the seaside, Years 1 and 2 are learning about waste, recycling and reusing materials, Years 3 and 4 are learning about the wonderful city of Milton Keynes, whilst year 5/6 are learning all about football and fitness and of course the World Cup.

In Foundation the children read, 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' during Drawing Club. They retold the story on the small world table and made model lighthouses including a large lighthouse for our seaside role play area. They also planned delicious lunches for Mr Grinling, drawing and labelling what he could eat.

This week, Woburn class enjoyed tasting vegetables ready for their salad making DT project.

Some of the children were even brave enough to taste some new vegetables in our blind test!

They tasted courgette, celery and even spring onion!

Westminster have thoroughly enjoyed learning their new music topic, 'Compose and Create', this term. The children have been developing their musical skills by learning a new song and composing their own music using four notes. They have shown great enthusiasm, creativity and confidence as they experimented with different sounds and rhythms to create their own performances.

It has been wonderful to see the children working collaboratively and taking pride in their musical achievements.

Here is a quick snapshot of the children performing their new song. Well done, Westminster – keep up the fantastic work!

Lego Club have enjoyed having a go at the Lego Challenges that have been set over the last 2 weeks and have made animals and robots using the Lego.

We have had cats, dinosaurs, worms, giraffes, parrots and even elephants!

Melrose have been busy during forest school. They had a challenge to design and create a boat that could sail quickly across water. They could only use natural materials. The winning time was Kymani with 6 seconds.  Well done Kymani!

Years 5 and 6 created a poster to encapsulate their learning over the last year. You can see all the topics they have covered! Well done children.

'John and I would love to give a big shout out, to all of the amazing teachers who helped to make the big sleepover a wonderful experience for John!'- Sara

'A huge shout out to Cate and the staff in the kitchen.  I knew that cooking and serving lunch every day was a huge task, but I have a new found admiration for the kitchen team!

After helping out in the kitchen during the big sleepover, I think those guys need the biggest shout out. It's a hot environment with a lot of things going on at once, as well as people moving around. Cate and the team make it look super easy. Cooking delicious food and greeting each child with a smile on their face.

Huge kudos to you! - Jo Hammett

SHOUT-OUT to Tristan. He made a video all about MK as part of his home learning project. He answered questions and presented facts about MK. I enjoyed watching it Tristan- well done.

'My child was worried before the sleepover, scared to stay overnight… he loved every moment of it!

Mason has never stayed overnight without family and your team did such an amazing job and made him feel so welcome,

Thank you so much for everything you do for him.'

'Please shout out to Miss Pullen for all her hard work with the kids!

And shout out and a big thank you to all the staff that helped with the big sleepover, they all had a great time!

Thankyou'- Isla

'SHOUT OUT for Miss Henry!

We just wanted to say a huge thank you for everything you do. Your patience, kindness, and genuine care mean so much to our son Junior and our family.

The way you support him, encourage him, and take the time to understand his needs never goes unnoticed. Recently, when you stayed late to help him settle for the Big sleepover, despite not having to, it was another example of how you consistently go above and beyond for the children in your care.

He has such a wonderful relationship with you, and seeing how safe, valued, and understood he feels around you means the world to us.

Thank you for all the extra moments, the kindness, and the dedication you show every day. We appreciate you more than words can say'.

Junior King's family

'Please can I give a shout out to Melrose Class, I have spent a lot of time in there this week and it has been an absolute pleasure. It is lovely to see how far the children have come this year, not just academically but personally too, and that is thanks to the amazing Miss Henry'. From Miss Proctor.

'Can you say a huge well done to the boys' football team and Mr Ayres and Mr Godfrey for a fantastic football tournament at the MK Dons Stadium. They all did amazing getting to the semi-finals and should be so proud of themselves'.

Mel Pizey

Tyler has her first competition at her new gymnastics on Sunday, and depending on her points, it will determine if she makes it into the Bucks County champs in November.

Good Luck Tyler!

Shout out for Imaana!

'She played in a football tournament on Saturday and her team won!

She played fantastic, put in some great tackles against the boys and even scored a brilliant goal'.

Well done Imaana!

'Noah managed to pass his next grade at kickboxing after being picked up from the sleepover!

He was very tired but managed to get his highest grade so far!'

Well done Noah

A huge congratulations to Mr and Mrs Seldon. They got married at the weekend and you all look amazing. I hear that Ronan had the confidence to do a speech as well- Well done Ronan. What a lovely photo!

Keeping children safe online at Abbeys Primary

At Abbeys, safeguarding is one of the most important responsibilities we hold, which also means safeguarding our students in the online world. As you know, children now use the internet for multiple activities including learning, creativity and collaboration, but with that, there are also potential risks we need to guard against.

The Department for Education states that schools and colleges have a statutory duty to keep children safe both on and offline and that we should ensure appropriate filtering and monitoring is in place in our schools. At Abbeys we work with the specialist safeguarding and security provider Schools Broadband, who provide us with the tools we need to keep your children safe and ensure that any potential safeguarding concerns are identified and addressed promptly.

Below is a short summary of the tools we deploy.

Online Filtering

We have an age-appropriate web filtering service to help prevent access to online content that is illegal, inappropriate or potentially harmful. In practice, this means the filter blocks known unsafe websites and content, including content that is unsuitable for children and prevents accidental exposure to harmful material while pupils are researching or browsing for learning.

Online Monitoring

The DfE makes a clear distinction between filtering and monitoring: whereas filtering is preventative and helps stop pupils reaching harmful content in the first place, monitoring is reactive and involves real-time alerts to help our teachers spot concerning activity so that we can respond appropriately and call in our specialist safeguarding staff if necessary. Our monitoring solution is also able to capture and assess risks even when a device is offline, ensuring no gaps in our monitoring.

Safeguarding Concerns

If we receive an alert that suggests a pupil may be at risk, our staff follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and involve our Designated Safeguarding Lead (me), as needed. This is part of the school’s wider safeguarding responsibilities, which include recognising that children can be harmed online as well as offline.

Protecting your children at home

Try to talk regularly about online life, set age-appropriate boundaries, and use parental controls where possible. If you need further help and advice, you might find some of the links below useful:

I look forward to seeing you all next Friday at our Father's Day event- 1.30pm-3pm.

Have a lovely weekend!
