School life has been really busy since my last newsletter and we have so much to share with you today.
We have had an amazing end to the week with our Pro Kick charity event and our Best of British afternoon- two things I know the pupils and staff have really enjoyed.
Next week our Year 6 pupils have their SATS assessments and I wish them the very best of luck! I know they will do their best!

Well done to everyone that took part in the Pro Kick charity event this week. We raised a huge £2250 for charity! Congratulations to everyone that took part. The final results are being calculated and our prizes are on the way! I even had to balance a ball on my nose! That was my biggest challenge of the year so far!
Thanks to Mr Godfrey for arranging such a fun event for us and for a worthy cause as well.
If you still have your sponsor form at home- bring them in as quickly as you can!

For many of us, the Coronation of Charles III this weekend may be the only Coronation we see in our lifetimes. Today we took the opportunity to celebrate all things British! As a school we teach the children all about British values which are an integral part of our school values.

The pupils all took part in a carousel of activities, which included may pole dancing, cricket, football, crown making, flag making and crafts. The Early years pupils enjoyed a toasted crumpet in Forest School, year 5/6 enjoyed a scone with cream and jam, whilst year 3/4 played British bingo! There was also an ice-cream or two! The great British rain also made an appearance!

Today all 288 pupils ran a mile as part of the TCS Mini London Marathon. They have all received a medal too! Our miles are added to a National database in order to beat the world record. The most exercise pledges in one month was 241,675 and we hope that by running, we can [alongside other schools] beat this record and create a record of our very own! Watch this space.

Congratulations to Bailey Rushmere (Melrose). He has achieved his red belt at martial arts, after only attending for 3 weeks and was mascot for Norwich City Football Club last week [I am not sure who this team are, but I am sure they are great]. He even met his favourite player, Teemu Pukki! What a fabulous smile Bailey!

We like to support our team by doing special things for one another now and again. We are doing this by filing a mug with the person's favourite things!
This week's mugging went to Kate Chambers, who was nominated for being a fantastic colleague and friend.
Well done Kate!

Mrs Chambers then went on to mug Yvonne Hickmott.
We all agree that Yvonne is such a happy person, with such a positive outlook. Yvonne always greets everyone with a smile and is the perfect front of house person for Abbeys.
I think we all agree that all the staff at Abbeys are wonderful!

I have been teaching now for 20 years and I think I can remember most of the children that I have taught. When I first came to Abbeys, D'Mitri was in my maths group. We knew then he would go on to be an athlete and look at him now!
Nineteen MMK athletes represented English Schools at the Track and Field Championships in Manchester. They came home with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
D’Mitri won the long jump by 31cm with a new M17 club record of 7.08m adding 4cm to the previous M17 club record set by Greg Rutherford in 2003.
The UK’s No.1 this season D’Mitri, has high hopes for the Junior Commonwealth Games! We will be following his progress closely! Congratulations D'Mitri- we are proud of you and remember you fondly.

On Thursday 18th May we will be having an author visit. Daniel Henshaw will be completing workshops with years 3,4,5 and 6 and hosting a whole school assembly. Daniel will be signing books in the library after-school if the children wish to purchase one for £5. We will also purchase some for the school- so that everyone can enjoy his stories.

It's another Bank holiday weekend and a chance to enjoy the Coronation. Have a lovely time!
