I cannot believe we are at the end of the academic year. It seems like only yesterday that I wrote my first newsletter as Headteacher of Abbeys Primary School. It has been a whirlwind of a year with many highs and only a couple of lows. I cannot thank everyone enough for all the support I have received.

The staff at Abbeys are phenomenal, not only do they give 110% for your children, but they have taken onboard all of the changes that I have asked of them. Change is hard for everyone and yet all the staff at Abbeys approach things positively, even my craziest ideas have been met with support and enthusiasm.... I mean who knew camping with 100 children would be so much fun!

We are on a mission to give our pupils the very best academic, social and emotional education and support we can. We are lucky to have such a team of dedicated staff who work incredibly hard. A special thank you to Mrs Louis White and Mrs Lisanti who keep me on the straight and narrow despite having a million jobs of their own to do!

Parents/ Carers have also shown me immense support and kindness as a new Headteacher. Asking how I am doing, sending me lovely emails and even just a wave and a smile on the playground in the morning goes a long way- so thank you!

A big thank you to the Governors who challenge and support me to strive for the best.

Lastly, to my family, especially my husband - who [at times] takes care of our own children, so I don't have to worry and lets me put your children first!

Without the support and kindness of EVERYONE, being a Headteacher would be an impossible task.

So THANK YOU!

Saying goodbye

Today we say goodbye and good luck to two members of staff.

The lovely Miss Harrison who is also getting married this Sunday!  Whaddon Primary school and Mr Marchant are lucky to have you!

And Mrs Labrooy - who is heading off on a new venture!

We wish you both good luck with everything you do and hope you keep in touch.

We are also saying goodbye to our lovely year 6 pupils.

Whilst we know they are all prepared for Secondary school, we are sad to see them go!

We know you are all more than ready for the challenges ahead of you! You are resilient, kind and caring pupils who always try your best! This is all anyone will ever ask of you!

We wish you happiness for the future and hope that you look back at your time at Abbeys fondly!

Leaver's performance

This year has been about creating new school traditions. One area of focus has been to embed our school values into all aspects of school life. Our Values define us as a school, give us a core purpose and bring us together as a community.

We have 11 school Values and this year we have presented awards to pupils in year 6, that have constantly displayed these values despite setbacks or adversity.

Congratulations to the following pupils:

Aspiration – Freya

The first child in the history of Abbeys Primary to achieve 100 in mental mathletes! Freya always strives to improve and be the best version of herself. She has been an absolute pleasure to have at Abbeys.

Respect- Luke

Luke shows the utmost respect for the adults in school and his peers. He is the most polite child I think I have ever met. Luke is caring and mature - he has carried the medical box every day of the year for Mrs Burton. He always thinks of others and puts them first.

Independence- Lily

Lily is confident and independent. She has an enormous amount of sass! Lily always gives things a go and is starting to speak up for herself more. She has grown in confidence over the course of the year!

Resilience - Jeremy

Jeremy has shown nothing but resilience. He has only been at Abbeys a short time and I know at times he has found things challenging. Jeremy attended boosters and tuition and worked extremely hard to catch up and achieve the best outcomes he possibly could.

Kindness- Turlisa

Turlisa has always shown pure kindness to others. There is not a bad bone in her body. She is genuine and kind and I hope this continues - Kindness is our most important value.

Relationships- Moses

Moses has only recently joined Abbeys. He has made friends with everyone, he is a great role model for others and a great person to be around. He always addresses staff and pupils with the utmost respect. He is kind and modest.

Patience Ella

Ella is not person that came to Abbeys in year 1/ 2. It has been a privilege to watch her blossom. She has displayed immense patience with herself and others and she has not always had things easy.

Honesty- Bobby

Bobby doesn’t always have a lot to say. But when he does, you can count on the truth and his perspective is always valuable.

Perseverance- Evelyn

Evelyn has shown that hard work and dedication always pays off - her dedication and hard work in the lead up to the SATS was admirable.

Co-operation- Hannah

Hannah always has a positive can do attitude - she never frowns or gives up, she just gets on with it! She always works well with others - no matter who they are.

Pride- Dhwani

Dhwani works hard and gives her all in everything that she does. She takes pride in her work - particularly in art and she always perseveres.

We could have given awards to everyone in year 6. You are a fantastic group of children and we wish you all the very best of luck in Secondary School!

THE BIG SCHOOL CAMP

Even though the weather wasn't playing ball, 120 children enjoyed a day of fun in the rain and 100 children stayed the night! We had a fabulous time! Your children displayed resilience, cooperation and determination and thoroughly enjoyed themselves- the feedback has been fantastic! We are very proud of the children who [regardless of the weather] took everything in their stride and cried with laughter.

Memories were made!

Looking back over the year brought a tear to my eye! We have so much to celebrate as a community.... Here are just a few of the HIGHLIGHTS!

I have a lot of favourite memories from this year, but a special moment for me was our class assembly because it was at the beginning of the year and I feel it really brought us together as a class. I also loved celebrating our successes with our pom-pom parties! Go Melrose!  MRS MIGLIAZZA

It was my first year at Abbeys and I have had so much fun! I've been made to feel very welcome by everyone. My highlight of the year has to be the BIG CAMP, the whole event was filled with fun but unfortunately there was no sun! I cannot forget the "summer" fair, the line never stopped, the children messed up my hair!! MR GODFREY

I think the best thing we did this year was to take EYFS and KS1 on a coach for the first time to the cinema. MISS CRAIG

My highlight of the year is when we created our own unique chocolate bars with different toppings and successfully sold them.  MISS SADIA

My favourite days have been when Frenchie has been in school- she is my favourite work colleague. MRS LISTANTI

My highlight of the year was seeing Freya pass level 100 on mental mathletes - also Agnelle - 2 children from my maths set! MISS DEAN

I have enjoyed cooking with lots of different children and their families. MRS JAMIESON

My favourite memories from Fountains this year has been forest school. The children are always so engaged outside and love exploring the outdoor area. They were especially excited when the elder tree wizard left us some exciting potions to mix and we made him little doors and windows to hide around forest school. MRS CLARKE

I don’t have a favourite memory, the whole year has been memorable, there have been some great changes and I am proud to be part of the school team. MRS PULLEN

My favourite memory of the year is getting to meet and make friends with everyone at Abbeys. MISS CURRIE

A favourite memory this year has been...  singing and dancing throughout different topics. But I don't think I will ever forget 'Heave...Ho!' MISS CAHILL

It has been a fabulous year for me, not only having worked in Year 5 and 6 for the first time, but to have had a super amazing class too, has made it even more memorable. Beaulieu Class have really shown themselves to be a kind, caring and supportive team. It has been a pleasure to get to know them all. They should be so proud of their achievements this year, they've worked exceptionally hard. Good luck to the Year 6s in their move up to secondary. Remember to come back and see us soon. MISS BEMROSE

My favourite memory with Marham has to be us writing and rehearsing our class assembly in the span of a week, and within a month of us all getting to know each other. It was a hilarious, memorable time. MISS AHMED

I have really enjoyed getting to know and work with all the awesome lightning squad children, you guys have made such great improvements, you are all amazing. MISS SHORE

I will never forget our whole school Easter egg hunt… It was a wet and rainy day but we had a great time! MISS PROCTOR

I have enjoyed playing basketball at lunchtime with all of the fabulous KS2 children - and seeing them compete for a 'Mrs LaBrooy high five' (for scoring 3 baskets in a row)! I also loved working with all of the year 5 and 6 children in my groups.  They are amazing! MRS LABROOY

My favourite memory was going on the zoo trip, all the children really enjoying it and everyone worked together. Another one is when me and Mr Godfrey had a race in PE for sports day practice and he went to run backwards and fell over doing a backwards roll! All the children found this hilarious! MISS TIERNEY

I would like to say that I have enjoyed observing Beaulieu's enthusiasm, resourcefulness and quiet working when completing Art and DT projects - especially as they have usually been a very chatty class! Their work on their Greek theatre masks, Space collages, and every class member's patience for sewing was particularly fantastic! MISS RIMMER

A favourite memory for me will be sports day because I really enjoyed it this year. It was extremely well organised and I had fun too! The Lord Grey sports lead were very helpful and it was set out and planned well. MRS CHAMBERS

I’ve really enjoyed seeing the play leaders working so well to support and nurture Abbeys younger children! MRS LOUIS-WHITE

I'd like to just say it's been overall a great year being back at Abbeys with a fantastic team. I can't pick out one memory but here's to making many more with all our wonderful children. MRS OAKLEY

My favourite memory from this year is taking the whole of EYFS and KS1 to the zoo! MISS HARRISON

Year 3/4 History workshop

Year 3/4 experienced an incredible day of Anglo-Saxon and Viking fun in a workshop with 'The History Guy'. They got to share stories, decipher and write messages in ancient runes, dig for archaeological artefacts and decide if they were from the correct era. They also got to try on clothing, hold weapons, experiment with shield formations and even played Anglo-Saxon and Viking games. Comments from the children included: "It was so amazing to see what they wore in battle and fire a bow and arrow!" "It felt like we went back in time." "All our learning in History lessons were in the activities - it was awesome."

Well done to Melrose, Marham and Missenden!

Feedback from Adam 'The History Guy' - "The children were an absolute credit to your school and so enthusiastic with every activity!"

Looks like you had a fabulous time.

Congratulations to our wonderful Sarah Oakley. She has been mugged for her dedication to Abbeys and always going above and beyond. The children and staff think very highly of you and we are looking forward to you being here more in September- as part of the After-school Club team.

Congratulations Sophie Clarke! You have been mugged by Lauren for being such a supportive colleague. Miss Brown often comments on how supportive you have been towards her, helping her to understand the continuous provision and answering all of her many questions. She said you probably get so annoyed but you still answer and support her with a smile.

Congratulations to Lily-Ann King who participated in the Harry's Rainbow colour run and personally raised £110. What an amazing achievement.

Trophy Templates - Primary Resources (teacher made) - Twinkl

A huge thank you and congratulations to Miss Rimmer, Mr Elliott, Tina and Lauren [Parents] who worked so hard to create a pumpkin carriage for the Bletchley Carnival. We achieved 2nd place and were awarded a trophy from the Mayor of Milton Keynes!

It was a fantastic day and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed representing our school at such a great event. Thank you for going above and beyond!

On Wednesday we had our first NEW AND IMPROVED Sports day and picnic. Thanks to everyone that attended.

It was a very competitive event... and that was just the staff! Congratulations to Blue house and Mr Godfrey who won this year's event by just 20 points!
