Another week down and one more to go before we can all have a well-earned rest. The first half-term can be very tiring for everyone, so I hope that resting and relaxing is on your half-term agenda.

This week has been another busy week in school with our annual Wear Yellow Day. Well-done to everyone that helped raise awareness of children's mental health- a growing concern for us as a school.

Last year, Miss Proctor and Miss Henry worked hard as Mental Health leads to create our own curriculum for mental health and well-being. This includes teaching our pupils how to manage their feelings and behaviour, what to do if they feel worried or anxious and how to manage more worrying symptoms of anxiety and depression [Upper KS2].

Since COVID, there has been an increase in mental health difficulties in children and whilst some people feel we should protect our children because they don't need to know about these things- we would disagree.

In fact, knowledge is power. Recognising your emotions and having a toolkit of strategies to use when you are struggling is the key to overcoming problems later in life.

The following members of staff are mental health and well-being trained:

Me- Mrs Fellowes- Senior Mental Health Lead.

Mrs Louis White-  Senior Mental Health Lead.

Miss Proctor- Mental Health First-Aider- and curriculum leader for mental health.

Miss Henry- Mental Health First-Aider- and curriculum leader for mental health.

Miss Dean- Mental Heath First Aider.

The children in Foundation used their ever improving pencil control to create surprise letters to send home to their families - writing their names and drawing what they have loved about school so far. They practised safely crossing the road to walk to the post box, explored the information on the post box and found the key hole which the post workers use to get the letters out. They also explored what they could see in the local area and found signs of Autumn along the way.

To help improve our Foundation outdoor classroom, the children have been helping to plant bulbs, a tree and some flowers in the planters and then watering them.

They are very excited to see what's going to happen to them during their year in Foundation.

"We can't wait for them to grow big and yellow like our clothes today."

"They will look so so so so beautiful."

Definitely some budding gardeners in the class!

Practical learning opportunities

Children learn best when they use  concrete manipulatives. This means by working practically and being actively engaged in their learning.

In KS1 the children have been learning about the part-whole model in maths and how we can use this to create addition number sentences.

Congratulations to Abir who has now completed his Karate level 6 exam. He has achieved his green belt!

Abir has been very busy as he also achieved a certificate for his football skills as well!

You must be tired out Abir?

Glyn has been going to Gymfinity for six weeks now and is training to become a ninja knight. He is really enjoying it and is making new friends each week, he has lots of confidence and is always sharing what he has learnt!

We are all proud of you Glyn!

Paige has been busy again. She has achieved her Bronze Chief Scout award.

This is the highest award a Beaver scout can achieve.

Congratulations Paige! What a big smile you have in this photo!

All the staff at Abbeys work incredibly hard and as a staff team we want to show appreciation for this. This week Mrs Bromfield has been mugged by Miss Holder for being such a pleasure to work with. Miss Holder also wanted to thank Mrs Bromfield for all the help and patience over the last few weeks.

Mrs Bromfield then went on to mug Miss Henry for always looking after all of her colleagues emotionally and checking that we are all doing well. Miss Henry always takes on additional work to help others. She is always smiling and greeting both adults and children warmly and fondly. Miss Henry makes others feel special, respected and appreciated.

Congratulations to all the children that entered the conker decorating competition. The entries were amazing- I was so impressed with some of the ideas. It was really hard to choose a winner!

Congratulations to the following children-

Foundation Stage- Leni-jo

Year 1/2-  Ayat

Year 3/4- Eva

Year 5/6- Arnav

There were other EXCEPTIONAL entries from Andrei, Mircea, Lillian H, Aleksa, Jake F and Asiyah. Everyone has a little prize just for taking part!

Your child needs you to be an active part of their school life and education. We want every parent/ carer to come to parent's evening and educational workshops throughout the year.

We believe that having parents in school, working together collaboratively to improve the school, the provision and most importantly supporting you to support your child is key to better outcomes.

I am afraid to say that non-attendance at parent's evening and workshops will result in me nagging and calling you until you come in- they don't call me- Jess 'RELENTLESS' Fellowes for nothing!

Whilst, we realise that everyone is very busy outside of school, your child's education and enabling you to support them effectively must be a priority.

We look forward to meeting you all next week at parent's evening - your child will have a slip in their planner with a time for you to attend.

Mrs Louis White and I will be available at Parent's evening - our doors are always open!

Attendance Matters | Clacton County High School

We have growing concerns around persistent absence and lateness in school and we need to work together to improve attendance overall!

Last week our whole school attendance was 94%.

This is below the national target- which is to achieve above 96%.

If your child is persistently late or absent from school then you will be contacted by Mrs Jamieson - our attendance officer. If attendance doesn't improve, you will receive a formal letter and if concerns continue this could lead to a fine or prosecution.

Holidays and extended weekends are not permitted and will be unauthorised. If you have concerns, please make contact with us and we will be able to help.

Parking out on Melrose Avenue continues to be a problem and I have contacted the Council this week seeking a resolution.

Please be vigilant and drive slowly.

You need to park safely and walk your child to the gate-which opens at 8.30am.

Please park sensibly- not across footpaths, driveways or corners.  Thank you

Last, but certainly not least, welcome to the world BABY M!

Last Friday Mrs Migliazza had her beautiful baby.

A lovely new addition to the Abbeys' Family! We cannot wait to meet him.

CONGRATULATIONS Mrs M and Mr M!

HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND!
