Welcome back! I hope that everyone enjoyed the half-term? It was lovely to have a rest but now we are all back and raring to go.
This half-term is set to be very, very busy. Please keep up to date with the school calendar- on our website, there are so many events on in school, we do not want anyone to miss out!

By now you will have received the curriculum newslettter for your child which includes their homework and information about their learning this term. These are stuck in the children's homework books and are available on our website for you to see.
If you have a child in Foundation Stage you will have regular updates and newsletters uploaded onto Tapestry.
In year 1/2 the children will be learning all about the Great Fire of London and how it started on Pudding Lane back in 1666. If you go to London be sure to visit the Monument. This is one of my favourite Key stage One topics- I hope the children enjoy learning the traditional London's burning song!
In year 3/4, the children are learning all about Volcanoes and earthquakes. They will be focusing on Pompeii and learning about different types of weather.
In year 5/6, the children are learning all about Rainforests- including habitats, with a focus on Brazil.
There is lots of exciting learning going on throughout the school. Please ask your child about their learning and what they are enjoying-we always like to hear the feedback.
Please remember to support your children with being organised and prepared for school. Encourage their independence with homework and equipment. Reading is the most important part of your child's home learning. They should be using online learning platforms to ensure they have access to a wide range of texts.

News from Foundation Stage!
The children in Foundation practise lots of fine motor skills every day in lots of different ways. This is so important as it helps with many of the tasks we have to do: writing, cutting up food, doing up our buttons or zips. We even do Dough Disco twice a week!
We have also started drawing club this week - we share a story and linked vocabulary before exploring drawing challenges and writing secret codes. This week we read Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. We explored words like broomstick, whoosh, magnificent, passenger, swoop, scaly and terrifying. The children then drew their own dragons and decided who they would take on their broomstick. Some of the ideas for codes were fantastic.
"This code makes his fiery breath get even hotter."
"If you press on my code then he will swish his tail at you."
"Everyone needs to press my code. Number 3 makes his claws grow so he is more terrifying."

THE ROMANS ARE COMING!
Just before half-term, years 3 and 4 celebrated the end of their Roman topic with a Roman-themed day. We were lucky enough to have a real Roman come in to school and share his experiences and many interesting artefacts with the children. They learnt so much and thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Mental health ambassadors
Miss Proctor and Miss Henry would like a shout out for our Mental Health Ambassadors!
They had their first meeting/training session this week. They are all so enthusiastic and full of ideas, it was great to sit down and work with them all. Their next task is to write a mission statement about their role. They will also be working with other Mental Health Ambassadors from Knowles.

Our first children's movie night was very successful. Despite popcorn everywhere, the children thoroughly enjoyed staying up late!
Thanks to the PTA [Karen, Claire and Mel], Mrs Leighton McKechnie and Mrs Rashid, Sophia Bishop, Miss Cahill, Mrs Louis-White and Miss Ahmed for staying late on the last day of half term, to do something special for our pupils.
We have another movie night planned for the spring term so watch this space!

Congratulations to Owen in year 1.
At the weekend, Owen scored 7 goals for his football team and achieved Man of the match!
What a great achievement, Owen! The trophy is rather impressive too!
Well done!

'Could I please give a SHOUT OUT to Mrs Louis-White? We have really appreciated her behind the scenes work for us and our child. Her confidence, knowledge, effort and incredible communication have been amazing! We're very grateful she's part of the Abbeys team'.
What a lovely SHOUT OUT for Mrs Louis White. You wouldn't believe the amount of paperwork involved with SEN provision, the endless meetings and the challenges involved in getting pupils the funding and the support they deserve. It can be a disheartening, lonely role, but shout-outs like this make it all worthwhile. Mrs Louis White brightens our days with her humour, enthusiasm and relentless passion for a Nandos- we love having her in the team!

We need all children to have wellies for Forest school. If they do not have wellies, they will not be able to partake in all of the Forest school activities.
If you are able to donate any spare wellies that would be really helpful. Please pass them on to Mrs Dunnett.

COATS
I was surprised to see many children coming through the gates with no coats on this morning.
It is getting colder and wetter. The children must go outside in the day for fresh air! Fresh air enables the children to learn better- staying inside is a last resort .

HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND EVERYONE!
