Well the Easter holidays feels like a life time ago and the summer term is in full swing. We have a very busy term ahead of us and the children have all started new topics over the last week.

You will have received your child's curriculum newsletter and the pick a mix homework. Please remember that reading and maths are the priority, but there are also lots of creative opportunities for your children to enjoy!

A message from Miss Rimmer- 'I just wanted to let you know that baby came as planned last Monday - another little girl.  We have named her Grace. She was 6lb 14oz and is doing well so far'.

Congratulations to Miss Rimmer and her family. What a lovely baby girl and little sister to beautiful Annie! Welcome to the world little Grace!

We cannot wait to meet you!

Congratulations to all of the pupils that joined in our Battle of the Bands competition over the Easter holidays.

It is really good to see children logging on to our learning platforms and enjoying a challenge competing for that all important title- ROCK LEGEND!

A huge well done to Aisha Balde for getting to the top of the charts!

Mrs Dunnett has been very busy in Forest School over the last two weeks. The children have been making art out of things they have found in the environment. They have been searching for signs that summer is on its way. Here are some photos of Missenden's work.

Did you find any signs of Summer?

I hope it comes soon!

This week in Foundation, we have been looking at numbers beyond 10. The children have been using the tens frames to help them to subitise 10 (without needing to count) and count on using real life objects. Lucas and Charlotte enjoyed using the one hundred square to find each number as well as counting all the way to 100! Ramez and Juni used the Numicon to create a number line to 20. Such a great effort! Great work everyone!

The wonderful Whitby class have been writing simile poems over the last couple of weeks!

They are amazing! Now they have made a little book full of their work! Well done Whitby.

I cannot wait to read them all!

Congratulations to all the children that are still on 100% attendance. This must have been tricky after the Winter full of coughs and colds!

Well done to all those whose attendance is above 95% this is where you need to be!

Keep up the good work all those children that are working hard to improve their attendance- challenging themselves!

Pupils currently with 100% attendance are- Logan H, Justin, Jesse, Rio, Tristan, Azeezah, Phebian, Leighton, Arthur, Favour, Oskar L, Corey, Bailey, Eva, Riley, Emeric, Sean, Matilda, Ava, Faith, Lewis K, Freya R and Temur.

When I decided to become a Headteacher, I promised myself that I would try not to focus too much on the paperwork and always be in my office. My favourite days in school are when I can get out and about in classes with the children looking at their learning.

On Thursday I was able to spend the day in and out of classes. I spoke to the children, looked at books and observed the children fully engaged in their learning. Ruby Wiseman said 'so nice to see you today Mrs Fellowes' Which actually made my day!

It was lovely to see new initiatives like Masterreaders taking off in KS2 and children really engaged with phonics in Foundation and Ks1. I enjoyed spending time with Foundation stage, where I was able to be the patient while Rithu was the Doctor in the doctor's surgery!

It is equally amazing to see such wonderful relationships between teachers and pupils who are always respectful and trying to follow the golden rules.

I like to look at the start of children's books and then again at their most recent piece of work. This enables me to see progress over time.

Just look at Ivy's writing at the start of year 2 compared to now! What a turn around - well done Ivy! Not only is your handwriting neater, it is sitting on the line, your Bs and Ds are the right way around and you are beginning to organise your writing better! Super work! BE PROUD of yourself young lady!

A huge well done to Oliver in year 5!

After a hesitant start, he completed a highropes course and thoroughly enjoyed himself!

We are all very proud of you Oliver!

I find anything like this very challenging so I really admire your determination, Oliver!

Well done to you all!

CONGRATULATIONS to Leni-Jo in Foundation stage.

She has moved up a class in swimming!

She only started having lessons at the end October

Swimming is a vital life skill! Well done Leni-Jo. We are all very proud of you!

CONGRATULATIONS TO JOEY!

Joey desrves a SHOUT OUT as he’s been doing so well with his football training.

Joey came back with not 1 but 2 trophies.

They're almost as big as you  Joey!

Well done.

It was a hat-trick for Owen at the weekend and of course MAN of the MATCH!

Well done Owen!

Your hard work is paying off!

Keep it up!

Kuukua deserves a huge shout- out. Not only does she always work hard and follow the golden rules but she has been making personalised Abbeys hairbands!

I think everyone agrees that she looks rather cool!

She even made one for me!

Thank you Kuukua!

We are very lucky to have such an amazing staff team at Abbeys Primary. Every single person that works here does their best to support your children. We have a lovely team and I am a very lucky Headteacher.

Some people you may not know as well as others. But there are lots of staff behind the scenes that always contribute so much to school life.

Like Mrs Stock!

Our latest mugging has gone to Mrs Stock!

She was mugged by Mrs Warburton for always being there to support with any computing questions and solve computing issues. Mrs Stock greets everyone with a  smile and kindness. No job is too big or too small for her.

She'll even tell you to just turn it off and turn it on again without laughing! She is a superstar!

Behaviour in school, around school

and in the community

Incidents of negative behaviour in school are rare, however we do frequently have to remind pupils of the rules at break times and lunch times- particularly when play becomes too rough. We use the following guide for dealing with incidents in school and would appreciate parental support in using similar language at home.

If you have concerns about your child, in the first instance, you should discuss this with their class teacher. Our positive ethos and behaviour policy is on our website for you to read.

When your child walks to school, it's crucial they adhere to the rules and guidance you've established. As parents or caregivers, granting permission for independent travel to school means assuming responsibility for any misconduct along the way. Moreover, as ambassadors of our school, wearing the Abbeys uniform should fill them with pride, knowing they represent our school community. Their conduct outside school hours can significantly impact our school's reputation, which highlights the importance of upholding behavioural standards even beyond the boundaries of the school day.

We are very lucky to have Daisychain children's centre on site and if you haven't been in there, I urge you to pop in and say hi. There is always lots going on and they can offer support for many different things!

Below is their timetable for the next few weeks!

More and more children are coming to school with unhealthy lunches. Just this week we have had Mars bars, sweets and huge bags of crisps.

If you choose to send your child with a packed lunch, they should only have one treat in there like a Kit kat for example. I have seen pupils with 3 or 4 different sweet items which are not only unhealthy for their diet they are also bad for their teeth. Please save the treats for the weekend!

Yet again we have unwanted visitors in school!

It is imperative that all parents/ carers check and treat their children's hair accordingly.

Pupils with long hair should always have it tied up.

If you need help and support with this please ask.
