It was lovely to see a sprinkling of snow this week. For some, it was their first experience of snow and it was lovely to hear the children asking 'is it Christmas!?' and me quickly replying 'NO it's not!'

We have a few weeks left of the term before our Christmas celebrations begin. Children have been working really hard securing new knowledge within their new topics.

 There's SNOW- STOPPING them....

At Abbeys, we use White Rose maths to support our maths curriculum. We have also been working with the Enigma Maths Hub to embed maths mastery- a maths approach that allows pupils to establish a deeper understanding of number and use this prior knowledge to solve more complicated problems.

The staff have benefitted from additional maths training with the Enigmas Maths Hub experts and it is great to see this then transferring back into the classrooms. We have particularly focused on stem sentences, retrieval practice, challenge and the small steps that we teach.  It is really making a difference.

The teachers have been working hard to use more concrete resources to physically demonstrate mathematical questions. They have been taking more photos of their learning to demonstrate what they have been up to.

Whitby's floor book is beautifully presented as a record of all the wonderful learning taking place in maths!

There is so much going on in school at the moment. With trips to the cinema, visits from our MP and exciting science experiments, the children are loving life and learning.

Children in Tintern and Turvey have been exploring wedding celebrations as part of their 'Let's Celebrate' topic. They have dressed up in wedding clothing, made a wedding cake to use for role play and even decorated a wedding car outside. The children have also learnt about wedding traditions from around the world.

"It was fun to throw confetti like a real wedding."

"I got to wear a wedding dress so I'm a bride."

"Some people do different things for weddings like jump over a broom or smash the plates up."

Year 3/4 have been learning about states of matter in science. Changing states from solid to liquid to gas. They had fun making their own ice cream!

In years 1 and 2 they have been learning about diary entries in English this week. They have been pretending to be Florence Nightingale and have written a diary entry about what it was like in hospitals in the past. Faith enjoyed her learning so much that she went home and made her own diary about her day!

Last week, KS1 and Foundation went to the cinema to see Garfield. Next week KS2 will be going too! For some children, this was the first time they had ever been on a coach or to the cinema! They loved it and the school and staff received so many compliments about pupil behaviour and organisation! Well done to everyone involved.

In year 5/6 DT lessons, the children have been learning all about chocolate. Here is Sahira's and Naveena's DT work, they learnt about how cocoa is grown and produced and have created a diagram that shows the stages of production.

Well done to all the children and staff who dressed up to support Children In Need last week. We had some wonderful costumes and raised over £200 for charity.

Thank you everyone!

Well done to our Mental Health ambassadors who led an assembly for Anti-Bullying Week. Bullying is extremely rare at Abbeys. The vast majority of pupils, look after and care for one another despite their differences.

As a school, we created this crib sheet to help us identify what bullying is and what it is not.

A huge SHOUT-OUT to Lexi.

She achieved levels 1 and 2 in gymnastics this week.

Well done Lexi! A wonderful achievement!

Well done to Florence. She completed her dance exam! And she passed!

Super work Flo! Keep it up!

You never know, I might see you on Strictly come dancing!

Shout out to Mr Godfrey and Mrs Dunnett for taking the sports leaders to the MK Dons at the weekend!

We think it was a great experience for Ellie!

Mr and Mrs Carpenter

The biggest well done to all the team involved in organising and undertaking the field trip to the cinema! It went off without a hitch and was lovely to see all the children listening so well to the teachers and TAs.

 Mrs Harris

Mrs Sharp is new to the Abbeys family and has definitely been thrown in at the deep end in KS1!

Mrs Sharp has taken it all in her stride and has quickly become a valued team member.

We are very lucky that you have joined us and so are the children.  Thanks to Mrs Wright for mugging Mrs Sharp... I wonder who will be next?

Congratulations to Melrose! They won a special treat a 'non-uniform day!' This is because they were one of the classes to achieve the highest attendance in the Autumn term. Well done to Melrose! What a lovely photo!

Miss Henry's been very generous with her Tesco BLUE TOKENS this week and stuffing them in the slot for Abbeys! Please keep them coming!

We hope many parents/ carers can join us for this online meeting next week. Your views/ thoughts will help us shape the SEN provision we put in place at Abbeys.

On Friday 29th November it is wear what you want day!

We are asking every family to donate a prize for our tombola, in return the children can Wear What They Want for the day!

Suitable donations are things like wine, perfume, biscuits, chocolates, toiletries and unwanted gifts.

We hope you can come along to our Winter Fair- we have lots of stalls and we know you'll have a great time.

This year there will be a uniform stall, where you can make a donation for second-hand uniform. We have also received a huge donation of new uniforms from Tesco and this will be available for you.

Thanks to Mrs Hakim Ali and the staff at Tesco for this donation!

THE DAY WE MET CALLUM ANDERSON MP- by Philip S

On Friday, the School councillors were lucky enough to meet Callum Anderson, MP for Buckingham and Bletchley. He answered all of our questions and we learnt a lot about him and what he believes in.

We asked him serious questions such as ‘what will you do about the amount of homeless people in Milton Keynes?’. He replied saying that they are going to try to reduce the cost of building homes, making them more affordable. The aim is to increase the minimum wage to support people to buy homes. He said about getting people into work and creating jobs was very important.

We learnt other fun things about Callum Anderson too. He told us that:

He doesn’t own a mansion [even though he is an MP].

He grew up nearby in Dunstable and his Mum works in a supermarket.

English is his main language, but he can speak some Spanish.

He is in his early 30’s. He doesn’t have children.

He knew he wanted to be an MP when he was a teenager.

He supports MKDONS but also likes Manchester United.

We had a great time meeting him. It was fun!

Mr Godfrey and Mrs Dunnett have been very busy this week with a basketball tournament, football and a trip to MK DONS with the sport's leaders. Well done to all the children involved and a huge thanks to the staff! Our pupils get lots of added extras, because the staff at Abbeys go above and beyond! We are very lucky!

Well done to the year 5/6 football team. They won all 4 games after school on Thursday! It was freezing!

1-0, 2-0. 3-0, 4-0

Goals for Rocco, Alfie, Arnav, Charlie and Jaden

So proud of you boys!

Over the next few weeks and into the new year we have some staffing changes at school.

Firstly, at the end of next week Miss Lauren Brown- TA in 3/4- will be leaving us for pastures new. We will Miss Brown the very best of luck and thank her for the time she has spent with us at Abbeys.

This week we have welcomed two new teaching assistants. Miss Katerina Christophi and Miss Dora Naydenova. Welcome to Abbeys, I know that you'll love it here.

Some of you will already know that Mrs Chambers has decided to have a break from school life and she will not be returning in January. We are sad to see Mrs Chambers leave Abbeys, but we have lots of fond memories. We wish Mrs Chambers good luck for the future.

After Christmas, Miss Bemrose will be taking Woburn class and after Easter, Miss Rimmer will return from her maternity leave to teach in Missenden again.

There are some changes to the PE and forest school timetable and this will be sent out just before the holidays.

Another exciting development at school is that we are working towards making better provision for our pupils with additional needs. Miss Craig, Miss Christophi and Mrs Vicarage will be leading on this, with support from Mrs Louis-White.

WATCH THIS SPACE!

Congratulations to Thomas Dunnett. His design has been chosen by the Mayor of Milton Keynes! It is the winning design from hundreds of entries from throughout the city! Well done Thomas!!! Cllr Marie Bradburn, the Mayor of Milton Keynes wanted a design incorporating a bike! A super idea Thomas!
