I cannot believe we are at half-term already! Halfway through the academic year! We have been so busy at school, the weeks are flying by. The children have been  enjoying their topics, but I think everyone is tired and ready for a week off.

Thanks to everyone for a super half-term. Happy holidays!

CONGRATULATIONS to BLUE HOUSE! Winners of our QUINGO night! We had a fabulous evening last Friday competing for the house trophy. Families enjoyed Bingo- called by Simon, our expert Bingo caller, and a quiz- testing their knowledge on all sorts of subjects. Well done and thanks to all those who attended- it's great to see so many families supporting the school.

We raised over £1000 at our Quingo night and with the money raised from this,  our Christmas Fair and our Tesco blue token money, we hope to purchase some furniture for the outdoor area. These pieces of furniture are learning stations where children can access play on all different levels and be more creative with their learning. As you can see, these pieces of furniture are not cheap, and our fundraising efforts don't go that far! Nevertheless, they will make a huge difference to our provision and the children will enjoy them.

Tintern and Turvey have been shearing sheep and milking cows in provision as part of our learning about jobs on a farm. They will also be baking bread this week, supporting their learning on the uses of farm produce. Well done children. You have been very engaged in this topic!

In Art this half term, Woburn have been using artwork from Deborah Shapiro and David Mceown as inspiration for their very own Arctic collages. They used water colours to create a graded background wash and used different materials and images of Arctic animals to create a collage of the Arctic tundra.

Whitby have worked hard this week in their monthly write. They have retold the story of the Gingerbread Man and all of the children tried really hard to write their sentences independently.

Here are photos of Soluun and Antonino's work. We are really proud of how independent they were with their writing and how much progress they have made this year.

Westminster class filled their class POM POM jar last week and were rewarded with a special treat! A movie, pyjamas and biscuits! Well done to you all Westminster what a treat!

Missenden have been making shadow puppets at part of their learning around Light and Shadow. They have been focusing on the Shang Dynasty and made puppets with moving parts in DT. Well done Missenden. These are great!

Melrose have also been learning all about light and shadow.  They have made puppets with moving parts and had fun projecting them up onto the interactive whiteboard.

As part of their topic on light and shadow, Marham have made working lighthouses as part of their home learning. They have worked so hard on this science-based topic! Well done children.

Years 5 and 6 have been focusing on Peter Thorpe, who is well known for his striking paintings of rockets. They have used pastels and paints to create a collage effect.

This is amazing artwork- well done children!

Sadly, I have had numerous complaints in the last couple of weeks about parking at drop off and collection times and it is becoming unsafe for pupils around the school grounds.

It is important that you do not park:

  • Over people's driveways
  • Over a drop curb - onto someone's property
  • On corners- obstructing the view
  • Up the pavement- obstructing the pathway
  • In the middle of the road- so your child can get out and run to the gate
  • In the middle of the junction.
  • In the parking allocated for Daisychain and Buttons families.

As I stand at the gate every morning, I have seen all sorts of dangerous driving and terribly unsafe and inconsiderate parking. When residents call me to complain, I have to agree with them!

There is a 15-minute window where you can drop your child into school and there are three entrances. This is ample. Please try to be more thoughtful and if you have any issues please raise them with myself- jfellowes@abbeysprmary.org

As usual over half term we will be having our Battle of the Bands competition on TTROCKSTARS.

Every pupil has a login and will be able to compete. They just need to log on and give it a go.

There are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in every year group!

The competition starts on Friday 14th February and runs until Sunday 23rd February.

ENJOY!

We are so proud of Lucas [year 1]. Lucas has been having skiing lessons. He is learning so quickly! His determination and excitement on the slopes is truly inspiring! Well done Lucas!

A very big shout out and a personal thank you to Miss Craig and Miss Proctor for this term! Our little one is an absolute handful and we appreciate their stellar communication, commitment and friendliness at what has been a very stressful start to 2025.

Mrs Louis - White here sneaking in while Mrs Fellowes isn't looking, as we have had a few shout-outs come in for our wonderful headteacher!

Shout out to the Incredible Mrs. Fellowes!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Fellowes, an outstanding headteacher who goes above and beyond for her students, parents, and staff. Your unwavering dedication, kindness, and commitment to ensuring everyone has the best opportunities do not go unnoticed.

From always being available to support those in need, to creating a nurturing and inspiring environment for learning, you make a difference every single day. Your care, leadership, and passion truly shape the future for so many.

We appreciate you, Mrs. Fellowes! Thank you for all that you do.

*******************************

I think we should give a big shout-out to Mrs Fellowes for being an amazing headteacher. I've been around for quite a few years now and come across a lot of headteachers and none have been as kind, loving and happy as her. I always see children hugging her on the playground and that's lovely.

Thank you for being you ??

I have to say that I couldn't agree more. As Deputy Head here at Abbeys, I am extremely grateful to have her as my partner in crime and as a staff team we are lucky to have such a caring, supportive and proactive head teacher!

(Now pass me the sick bucket!!!)

The staff have been at it again mugging one another!

Miss Dewberry mugged Miss Burton for being a great support in master readers this term.  As a new member of staff, Miss Dewberry has had lots questions and Miss Burton always answers any questions she has and gives her a good confidence boost as well.

Miss Burton didn't hang about and quickly mugged Mrs Brown.

She mugged for her super teaching and for all she gives to the school! Mrs Brown is a dedicated member of the team and is appreciated by us all.
