The first three weeks have flown by and today is the last day of swimming! Next week we start Forest school with Marham, Beaulieu, Bradwell, Melrose and Missenden being the first classes to  get outside with Mrs Dunnett. Please make sure your child has waterproofs and wellies in school. Forest school is an important part of the curriculum and all pupils will take part- whatever the weather.

We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there!

2nd October- Census Day

Why Census Day Matters to Schools?

Census Day is when the government collects important information from every school, such as how many children are on roll and how many are having school meals that day. This information is really important because:

  1. Funding for the School โ€“ The numbers collected on Census Day directly affect the amount of money the school receives from the government. For example, if your child has a free school meal on Census Day, the school gets extra funding to support learning and resources.

  2. Planning and Resources โ€“ Census information helps schools plan for staffing, equipment, classroom space, and support services, ensuring children get the best possible education.

  3. Fair Support for Pupils โ€“ The census data helps identify where extra funding is needed, such as the Pupil Premium which provides additional support for children who qualify.

In short, good attendance and meal uptake on Census Day help the school secure the funding it needs to give every child the best opportunities.

Please order a school meal on Census day! The menu is below!

Children in Tintern and Turvey have started their phonics journey. They are working really hard to write the initial sounds. Well done everyone! You'll be reading by Christmas!

Woburn class have been doing DT this week. Here are some pictures of their weaving, preparing the children for sewing their butterfly cushions in the next couple of weeks.

Whitby have been learning all about Minibeasts.

They have been labelling the parts of an insect as part of their science work.

The children in 3/4 have been learning about the ancient Roman myth of Romulus and Remus. They have been exploring different ways of retelling this fascinating story, and here are some of the children re-enacting it through drama.

In year 6  science, the children have been investigating electricity. These diagrams show the conventional symbols needed to make a working circuit. We created circuits and drew diagrams in our books!

As part of their home learning Rocco/ Harmony have created a cross-sectional and exploded diagram of the Titanic in DT. Great work!

At this time of year, I hold my annual Autumn competition. Autumn is my favourite season and there is so much to enjoy.

This year we are having a 'decorate a wooden spoon' competition.  The closing date is the 24th of October and the overall winning entry will win the House Trophy for their house.

There are other prizes too!

Most like a member of staff at Abbeys/ a famous person

We know that the children at Abbeys like to be creative! I cannot wait to see what they can produce this year!

Good luck children.

All the staff at Abbeys are amazing, but every so often one stands out and we mug them! Mrs Ayres has mugged Mrs Stock for being kind, caring and always helping out. Mrs Stock is one of the nicest people you will ever meet!

A HUGE SHOUT OUT  for Parker! Parker wasn't too keen on swimming at first. But he was brave and gave it a go! Now we can't stop him. Well done Parker! We are all proud of you!

Well done to Joey. He played a football match on Saturday for his new team Mk City and scored a brilliant Ronaldo-like free kick! He also won man of the match.

Congratulations to you Joey! A super start to your new team.

All children have the right to a full-time education that helps them to reach their potential, whatever their age, ability or needs. Coming to school regularly is really important if children are to make the most of all opportunities available to them.
Positive attendance at school helps children in a variety of ways, including:

Learning and Progress โ€“ Every school day builds on the one before. Missing lessons can create gaps in understanding, making it harder for children to keep up with reading, writing, maths, and other subjects.

Consistency and Routine โ€“ Regular attendance helps children develop a stable routine, which supports focus, confidence, and positive learning habits.

Social Development โ€“ School isnโ€™t just about lessons. Being present allows children to play, make friends, work in teams, and build social skills theyโ€™ll need throughout life.

Responsibility and Life Skills โ€“ Good attendance sets the foundation for reliability and responsibility, preparing children for secondary school and eventually the workplace.

Safeguarding โ€“ Schools also have a duty to keep children safe. Irregular school attendance could be a sign that things are not right at home. If a child is absent for 3 days school, we will carry out a home visit. Our priority is making sure that your child is safe.

At Abbeys Primary, we take attendance seriously and work hard to encourage children to be in school every day unless they are unwell. Missing days here and there can interrupt learning, make it harder for children to keep up, and affect their progress. It can also make it more difficult for them to build and maintain friendships.

By working together to support good attendance, we can give every child the best chance to learn, achieve and enjoy their time at Abbeys.

We aim to be above the national average for attendance which is 96% our whole school attendance is currently 96.6%. A special mention to Marham Class, who had the highest attendance in school for 3 weeks in a row!

Remember your children should be in every day unless they are unwell. This document produced by the DFE shares some key information.

Abbeys has introduced a new, more efficient and secure system for reporting your childโ€™s absence, called Studybugs.
You will need to get the free Studybugs app, or register on the Studybugs website, You will be able to use this to tell us whenever your childโ€™s ill and unable to attend school.
