The past two weeks have been very busy in school, the children are  thoroughly enjoying their new topics, and we have had a few school trips thrown in for good measure.

It has certainly begun to feel Wintery. Please ensure your child is prepared for school, with a named coat, hat, scarf and gloves!

Thanks to everyone who made a special effort for Children In Need last week. We raised £220.20 as a school for the charity! Well done everyone and thanks to Micca Brown for the personalised balloons! We have a lovely day.

CINEMA FUN!
The children in Foundation, Year 1,2,3 and 4 have all visited the cinema as part of the Film Festival. Thanks to all our volunteer helpers who enabled this to happen.

For some children, it is the first time they have visited the cinema and been on a double decker bus Their behaviour was exceptional.

We’d like to remind everyone of the importance of regularly checking for and treating head lice, as well as encouraging girls (and any child with long hair) to wear their hair tied up while at school.

Why treating head lice promptly matters

Head lice are very common in school-age children and can spread quickly in classrooms where children play and learn closely together. While head lice are not harmful, they can cause discomfort, itching, and inconvenience for families.
Prompt treatment helps:

  • Stop the spread to other children

  • Prevent itching and possible skin irritation

  • Reduce repeated outbreaks within the class

Checking your child’s hair regularly and using recommended treatments if lice are found helps keep our school community healthy and comfortable.

Why wearing hair up helps

Children with long hair—especially girls—are more likely to come into contact hair-to-hair during play. Wearing hair tied up (in a ponytail, bun, plait, etc.) can significantly reduce the chance of lice spreading.

This small step helps:

  • Lower the risk of head-to-head transmission

  • Protect your child and others from repeated outbreaks

  • Keep hair neat and manageable throughout the school day

Working together

By checking for lice regularly, treating them quickly, and keeping long hair tied up, we can greatly reduce the number of cases in school. Your cooperation makes a big difference and helps keep all our students comfortable and ready to learn.

If you need advice on identifying or treating head lice, please feel free to contact the school for guidance.

Thank you for your support!

Parent/ Carer feedback

Thanks to the 105 families who completed our questionnaire, there was so much positive feedback and lovely to read that 98% of families would recommend the school to others. We understand that Abbeys is a choice, and we are happy with your decision to send your children here.

There were some comments in the comment section that need further explanation.

Parents/ carers in Foundation stage would like to see more use of Tapestry. However, whilst we understand that you would like to see what's going on in school, it is impossible to record everything for you. Tapestry is limited to the best bits of school life. Teachers are teaching- your children are now learning, unlike nursery or pre-school this is more formal. Giving pupils the best possible start in Foundation is so important to us and we know it makes a huge difference to pupils' outcomes. I actively discourage my team from wandering around taking photos and writing observations up for parents/ carers to see. Instead, I would like to see teachers/ staff enhancing play with purposeful discussion, challenging pupils and playing along side them. This is a much better use of their time.

A few parents mentioned that communication needs to be streamlined – all in one place. My aim is that children or parents/carers don't miss out. I often find myself repeating myself via every platform we have and still some parents say they never knew the event was happening. Some parents prefer Facebook, some prefer text and others email. Streamlining this would be more time effective for me and my team, but would the communication get out to all parents? Happy to take more suggestions from families on this quandry.

As part of their Let's Celebrate topic, children in Tintern and Turvey have explored the traditions around weddings. The children loved throwing confetti, setting up and playing in their wedding role play area, taking on different roles in a wedding and they even made a beautiful cardboard 3-tier wedding cake to cut.

To start off our week of Anti-Bullying week, the children of Westminster have been creating a web of kindness together. They  spoke about how bullying can create a  culture of saying bad things about each other and how that would make us feel. They then decided that it would be much nicer to say kind words instead . The children all came up with something kind to say to each other. Once they had shared their kind words they then passed the string to their friend and the cycle continued until they all had part of the kindness web.

To finish off they then made a odd sock day selfie of their feet showing off all the different socks (individuals) they are.

Marham have been really enjoying forest school this week. They were searching for ingredients to make magic potions and decorating fairy doors.

Years 3 and 4 had an explosive volcano day, and it was an absolute success! The children had a wonderful time learning about volcanoes, designing their class models, and watching the exciting volcano experiment with Coke and Mentoes. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork truly made the day special.

Years 5 and 6 have been learning all about figurative language and have been using their knowledge of rainforests to write these wonderful setting descriptions.

I want to send a huge SHOUT OUT to Logan Hammett. He's been obsessed with roller skating recently, so we went along to a class at the weekend. Typical of us, we picked the day that they were giving out merits, so not only did he attend his first class, he also came away with merit 1! And he is already halfway through merit 2! So proud of him for trying something new and smashing it like always.

A huge thank you to the staff and the PTA who helped at Movies and munchies last night.  K-POP was a popular choice and the children had a fantastic sing-along.  Thanks everyone! The money raised at this event will be used to subsidise our Pantomime in January!

Our very own Charlie Farmer continues to excel in Karate!

Charlie has just been selected as part of the squad to represent England and the JKS Karate world championships next year in Brazil. This is a huge achievement and we look forward to hearing all about it! Go Charlie- remember us at Abbeys when you are a famous sportsman.

Here are the photos of Charlie’s fishing trip! Charlie had no luck at Furzton lake but then they went to the river at Stony Stratford  and Charlie had huge success with his dad. It was it was like hook a duck but with fish!

Well done Charlie... A super hobby!

Please can we Shout out to Rio and Rocco! We climbed up Pen Y Fan mountain in Wales, which is 2907 feet, in torrential rain and winds. They didn’t moan at all, they were soaked through to the bone and they carried on till we walked through the clouds and reached the top! Very proud of them!

Well done to you all!

A huge SHOUT-OUT for Cassie.

She has worked super hard at gymnastics recently and has now earned badge 6.

Great work Cassie!

We have had a mugging in the building. Mrs Stock has mugged Mrs Lisanti for all the 'mug'nificent things she does!

Must have taken you a while to come up with that Mrs Stock!

Well done Mrs Lisanti- well deserved!

Please be aware that I am very reluctant to ever close the school because of snow. I may have to close the school because of staffing and safety- but this would be an absolute last resort.

Please ensure you are prepared to make the journey to school with your child- no matter the weather.

Wellies, coats, hats, scarfs and gloves at the ready!

I am a firm believer in the children playing in and enjoying the outdoors, even in the snow- it is good for them and many have never experienced snow before.

Please assume the school is open in all weather- there is no need to call!

We will text you should we have to close- but this would be an extremely rare occurrence. If we are in school, we expect the children to be in school.

Thanks

Before any Fair we hold a 'Wear What You Want Day'. We ask that the children dress down for the day but bring an item for the fair.

Thank you in advance for your donations!
