Happy new year!
Welcome back to school. It seems to have been a very long time since my last newsletter and I have so much to share with you.
In the two weeks, we have done such a lot in school and the holidays are a distant memory.

There is no excuse for not knowing what is going on in school. We send out more reminders than you can imagine, we email and we text, we put dates on the website, in this newsletter and on the Facebook page and yet we still hear 'I didn't know anything about it'.... Please plan ahead for all the wonderful things we have going on in school over the next term!

Unfortunately, the police are now taking registration numbers and fining drivers who continue to park on the corner of Dorchester Avenue and Melrose Avenue.
As I have mentioned numerous times before, parking on the corner makes the view round the corner challenging for drivers- this is putting our pupils at risk.
Please park sensibly.
There was a collision between two cars outside the gate this week, thankfully no-one was hurt, but this could have been a pupil/ parent from school.
If you have concerns, please share them with the Council. I have raised concerns numerous times and the more issues are raised, the more chance there is that things will be addressed.
I have suggested making the road 20 mph, putting in speed humps or a zebra crossing.
Safety first!

We have also been learning our numerals and using them in a farm number track game.
We eagerly anticipate the arrival of the eggs to hatch into chicks in a few weeks time.

This half-term Woburn's Science topic is all about the human body. In their first lesson, the children enjoyed drawing around their bodies and labelling each part.

Years 3/4 were lucky enough to go to Hampton Court palace. A huge thank you to Miss O'Flynn for arranging this visit. She was able to persuade the powers that be to subsidise a huge chunk of the cost of the trip for our pupils! Thanks Miss O'Flynn...

Beaulieu had their hook day! Our topic is the Victorians. The children started with writing a timeline ordering key dates across the Victorian era. The children tried food that was from the Victorian period, eccles cakes, marmite on toast, liquorice and humbugs. Afterwards, they looked at and made different crafts of Victorian toys and learnt about the school rules comparing them with rules now.
In Bradwell, they have been writing character descriptions this week! They have been focusing on expanded noun phrases and dialogue to advance the character’s actions.
In Belmont, they are learning about Victorian artists. Here is Arthur's artwork where he reflected the work of William Morris who was popular during the Victorian Era for his Arts and Crafts movement.

During Forest school, all of the children have or will be taking part in a spot of bird watching, building a nest and making bird feeders with toilet roll tubes, lard and bird seed. They are really enjoying listening to all the different bird songs whilst outside in the forest.
