We have been so busy in school over the last two weeks and I hope I can capture all the best bits in today's newsletter.
Today was our wonderful Mother's day event. I hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks to all the staff, the PTA and the Micca Brown for wonderful balloons for the hall. It is always one of my favourite community events of the year.

I hope your children spoil you on Mother's day. There are so many children in the school with different family dynamics and circumstances but I know that they all have adults that dote on them like a Mum would. Whether our pupils are celebrating with their sisters, step- mums, adopted mums, aunties, nans, friends or dads we hope you have a lovely day on Sunday!

It's not all fun and games!
This week we had our Annual Evaluation. It is similar to an Ofsted inspection and a school improvement partner from the local authority came to inspect the school.
I have to tell you that she was very impressed! She noted the high levels of engagement throughout the school, the behaviour of children and the enthusiasm and skill of the teachers and teaching assistants. Our visitor was happy to see the children's progress. She looked at books and spoke to children and staff. She really highlighted the strength of the Foundation Stage and the great start the children have to school life. She said she got a warm fuzzy feeling walking about school.
With me and Mrs Louis White she discussed Special Educational Needs and how inclusive we are as a school – this is a huge strength. We discussed progress in reading, writing and maths. She was particularly impressed with how our most disadvantaged children achieve so highly in reading and phonics.
We have achieved a grade A for the second year in a row – the highest grade! This is pleasing, and although we have things to develop – like our writing curriculum – we are thrilled with the outcome.
Thanks to all the staff who work so hard!

Ramadan is a special month in the Islamic calendar when Muslims around the world fast from dawn until sunset. During this time, they focus on prayer, reflection, kindness, and helping others. The fast is broken each evening with a meal called an Iftar, which is often shared with family, friends, and the wider community.
Last week we had our school community Iftar. It was a wonderful evening. Our aim was to bring people together and celebrate diversity. It gives students, staff, and families the opportunity to learn about Ramadan, support classmates who are fasting, and experience an important cultural and religious tradition. By sharing these special moments, we create a stronger sense of belonging, encourage education and understanding between different cultures, and build a supportive community where everyone feels respected and included.
Thanks to everyone who came along.

'A huge shout-out and thanks to whole team for organising Iftar'
Kind regards,
O Farah.

Mrs Moir’s Adventures
Mrs Moir came to visit Marham and we went on a very exciting adventure into the book The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. Soon we discovered just how cunning the seagulls were! They kept trying to steal the lighthouse keeper’s sandwiches. So we put our thinking caps on and came up with some very sneaky sandwich ideas of our own. The class suggested fillings like mustard, hot sauce, and some very strange concoctions that would make even the bravest seagull squawk in disgust!
Next, our classroom was transformed into the ocean. Waves of imagination splashed everywhere as the children worked in teams to build baskets and food using recycled materials. There was cardboard bread, bottle-cap snacks, and some very creative sandwich inventions.
Finally, the big challenge arrived. We built a pulley system to send our baskets safely up to the lighthouse. One by one, the baskets travelled up, up, up… Would they make it?
Alas, every single basket reached the lighthouse successfully!
What a fantastic adventure we had — clever ideas, teamwork, and not a single sandwich stolen by those pesky seagulls!

This week is National Science week... we have been very busy in school thinking about many different aspects of science.
All of the forest school groups have been out and about around the local community litter picking. They are consciously trying to help to improve the local environment! Well done children. I had some wonderful feedback from a member of the local community about your behaviour! I am very proud of you all.

Tintern and Turvey have had fun planting and making mini-beast hotels in forest school today. I do not want to attract any creepy crawlies to the school!

|
|
Years 5 and 6 explored the impact of bacteria on bread. They discussed the best way to test this, how to make it a fair test and predicted what would happen!

Can you guess which is which?
|
|
Let there be light! Our Missenden students turned into electrical engineers today, successfully constructing their own switches to complete a circuit. A brilliant hands-on experience for Science Day!

|
|
|
Melrose have been experimenting with grass seeds.
They are finding out whether grass seeds grow better in soil or sand.
I wonder what will happen?
|
|
In Marham the children have been learning about how water is transported around the plant.
They enjoyed planning, predicting and testing!

SHOUTOUT to OLIVER HAND
I believe Oliver Hand deserves one this week, firstly, for his hard work with his writing and reading at home with me and my partner but also for what happened on Sunday. We went to Safari MK as it was his brother Rileys birthday, not only did he help his brother and one of his friends around the course, he also helped his younger cousins around the course aswell, if it was climbing, going down slides but just bringing them out there shells and enjoying themself, and when we thought he couldn't be more helpful, on 2 separate occasions he helped some children who he didn't know but saw they were sad and crying (as they couldn't find their parents) alerted me and helped walk them around the whole building/ play area to find their parents, we are very proud of his caring nature and to help others when needed.
Wow Oliver what kindness- Thank you and well done!

Dear Headteacher and All Teachers,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the work you do every day for our children. Looking after them, teaching them and supporting them during their time at school is incredibly important, and it really is appreciated.
As parents, we all see our own children individually and sometimes have different expectations, but we also know that managing a whole school, supporting staff, caring for students and communicating with parents is a huge responsibility.
So I simply wanted to say well done and thank you to the whole team, and especially to the Headteacher for leading the school and handling so many responsibilities. Your hard work truly makes a difference.
Thank you

I would like to give a shout-out to Michelle! She attended an animal workshop during the mid-term break and had a chance to learn about, touch and see different animals.
She had a lot of fun!

Well done to our Girls football team! They did a great job, getting stuck in against some really good teams this week. Nova scored 2 goals and Darcey pulled out some amazing saves. Willow has been a defensive rock at the back, despite the high winds!
All the girls giving a 100% for Abbeys. CONGRATULATIONS!

We are really lucky that Callum Anderson Labour MP will be coming into school to judge this competition- he will have the deciding vote and decide who takes the house trophy, currently in the hands of Green House.
This is a house event and children will be expected to wear house colours!

Congratulations to Mrs Moir who has been mugged this week! Mrs Dunnett mugged Mrs Moir for always being so organised in class and for always having a smile on her face!
This is all true! Well done Mrs Moir.... but where is the mug?

IMPORTANT REMINDER
Please discourage your children from bringing toys into school. Toys are for home and this is the safest place for personal possessions.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
